OREGON (WMSN) -- Oregon High School Senior Allie Baryenbruch is chosen to be honored in our Scholastic Arts Spotlight for March, 2010.
Allie's style is still evolving, but many of her current pieces are very realistic, yet she uses very bright colors to make them stand out.
Allie's art teacher, Michael Derrick nominated her, and he says he is always impressed with what she can do. "It's kind of like a coach that gets gifted with a wonderful athlete that kind of does everything naturally, but as a teacher then I try to make sure I give her different avenues, try getting her to explore and try different things so she grows artistically and and kind of expands."
When I saw your spot on the news Allie immediately came to my mind. Allie is an incredible student/ visual artist who would be very deserving of your attention and a wonderful representative of the arts.
Allie's awards include: Certificate of Achievement in Art (OSD), All-Conference Artist at the Badger Conference Art Show, Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition-Tammy Baldwin, Honorable Mention-Wisconsin Junior Duck Stamp Competition, and a 3rd place national award from the National Wild Turkey Federation for her conservation portrait of a turkey.
In nominating her, Mr. derrick wrote, "Outside the classroom I have had the added gratification to see Allie expand personally through various extracurricular activities. She is a dedicated volunteer at Three Gaits,Inc. (Therapeutic Horsemanship Center), the local food pantry, and at various "Race for the Cure" events. Her participation in various activities is always balanced and mature. Being a self-motivated and extremely reliable student has made her a natural leader. This is evident, not only to her teachers, but fellow community members who seek her out for assistance."
He also says, "It is a rare opportunity and honor to work with a student who possesses the attributes of Allie. In my 19 years as a teacher, Allie is one of the best student/artist I have been privileged to work with, both in talent and creativity. While she is not sure of her future goals in the art field, she enjoys the creativity and freedom of expression that art affords her imagination. Whatever road life leads her down she is confident that art will always be a constant companion. She will be an excellent representative for your Scholastic Arts Spotlight."
Allie Baryenbruch says she is not sure what her future holds, but art will always be part of her life. She wants to go to college and is considering UW-Stevens Point.
